Samsung Galaxy S5 Rumors.

Company Could Stick with Present Naming Conventions, More Release Info Leaked.

JANUARY 30, 2014

For companies such as Apple and Google, less is more when it comes to naming some of their devices.  While the third- and fourth-generation iPad are commonly known as iPad 3 and iPad 4 respectively, those are not their official names, as Apple decided to do away with numbering or special names until the release of the iPad Air in November 2013.  Similar to Apple’s case, Google’s Nexus 7 is officially known as Nexus 7 (2012) or Nexus 7 (2013) depending on iteration (or just plain “Nexus 7”), and not Nexus 7.1 or Nexus 7.2.    As for Samsung, whose Galaxy S phones are traditionally numbered by iteration, it looks like the Korean company will push forward with this naming convention with the Galaxy S5, according to a new tweet from @evleaks.

This latest Samsung Galaxy S5 rumor may sound a bit too obvious, but as mentioned above, certain companies prefer not to number their devices to tell one generation from the other.  That won’t happen to Samsung, though, as @evleaks tweeted earlier today that Samsung is “sticking with a winner, name-wise.”  His Twitter message came with a curious background image with the words “Galaxy S5”, and it’s been speculated that that may be new wallpaper for the unannounced flagship phone.

Meanwhile, a separate report from Sam Mobile claims that model numbers previously leaked for the Galaxy S5 are indeed accurate, and SM-G900 will indeed pertain to the upcoming handset.  SM-G900A and SM-G900V would be for the AT&T and Verizon editions, just as earlier leaked.  The report also included a variety of other model numbers that would correspond to versions from Europe, Asia, Japan, Korea and other markets and carriers.  And while this bit of release information might not add much to existing details hinting at a February/March launch and April/May release date, the report does include model numbers for Sprint, T-Mobile and U.S. Cellular, three carriers expected to offer the Galaxy S5  but whose versions hadn’t appeared on model number leaks until now.
