MINI WARS

Mini Wars: Sony Xperia Z1 Compact vs Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini vs LG G2 Mini.

Which is the best compact Android smartphone around? The Xperia Z1 Compact, Galaxy S4 Mini and the G2 Mini face off in our comparison.

In a mobile world hurling towards bigger and taller devices, some manufacturers are downsizing their offerings for users who prefer smaller, more compact handsets. While Samsung has downsized more than just the display of the Galaxy S4 Mini, Sony has taken the novel approach of building the Xperia Z1 Compact with fully loaded specs and s smaller screen. LG is all set to join the bandwagon with its own G2 Mini. Which, then, is likely to offer the best bang for your buck? KYMI finds out.

Form
Xperia Z1 Compact: 127 x 64.9 x 9.5mm, 137g
Galaxy S4 Mini: 124.6 x 61.3 x 8.9mm, 107g
G2 Mini: 4.3-inch screen

Just like its big brother Xperia Z1, the Xperia Z1 Compact is durable and built of premium materials. Its straight lines and barely there curves give it a modern, edgy feel while its aluminium surround and front and back Dragontrail glass casing make it look like a high-end device.

Samsung has given the Galaxy S4 Mini the same form factor as the Galaxy S4. The phone's light weight and curved casing make it ever so easy to grip and carry around but its plasticy build doesn't make it look like a premium device.

The G2 Mini is rumoured to look like the flagship G2 in most ways, including sporting a set of rear volume and power keys. The build quality of the device is expected to be good and given how sleek LG's latest offerings are, the G2 Mini is likely to be well designed.

Being compact, all three handsets will be comfortable to carry and use. While LG surely wins kudos for its modern design and Samsung for the light weigh of its offering, Sony takes home the trophy in this round with durability and build of the Xperia Z1 Compact.

Winner: Xperia Z1 Compact
